Tripping The Muse

Tripping The Muse
Snippets of Future Works

The following is the beginning of a somewhat, at this time, an unedited meandering dialog that is a part of a book I am working on based on pages of my website Kether Muse. My intent is to write on information I have collected over the years on subjects ranging from Spirituality to Politics. Just a short glance at the Site Map at the Muse will give an indication as to what I am doing and what is to come.

People have asked why I don't have much personal dialog in the Muse. Well, I created it as sort of a storage space of click links to information of study for myself and I have little plans of “reinventing the wheel” so to speak, as so many much smarter than me have already done the real work. These little dialogs of mine will not contain links like my site does and will consist of my personal thoughts about the subjects I explore. Sometimes a bit autobiographical as in this first chosen part of the larger work in progress. I am not a professional writer and at times I may misspell words or use sentencing with odd structure and punctuation but part of the point is to present the information in way it is easy to understand. I ain't no scholar, just a common seeker. Hope you enjoy it some and for more information please visit and share Kether Muse starting in the Wormhole.

Now to begin:

One of the fundamental aspects of our human existence is the search for meaning. French idealist philosopher and Jesuit priest Pierre Teilhard de Chardin is quoted as saying, "We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience." Since the first humans looked up into the sky we have been asking, “Why?” And that search for meaning has propelled us forward. From Socrates to Plato to Aristotle and beyond our minds have been filled with profound questions. Personally I have found I am well suited to the Socratic paradox, "I know one thing: that I know nothing". (scholars translate this in different ways, but I like this one)

In a way it seems that Buddha changed that a bit in the search to touch the “ultimate truth” by instructions to have your mind in a place of “no-thought”. But to understand it is seeking a place of non-attachment to our thoughts that bring us freedom and in touch with the infinite. And in this place of non-attachment it is a hope that duality fades away like morning dew in the sun and we are engulfed in a sea of oneness. Man that sounds so easy at times. Abraham, the entity channeled by Ester Hicks has said to change our world it only takes 68 seconds of pure thought! So, to think or not to think, that is the question. Bouncing around all these philosophies can just tucker a guy out at times. One does not want to be an “enlightenment junkie” wandering from place to place forever never satisfied, but then again limiting ones self to some sort of dogma seems dangerous to me.

Chaos Magick, by it very nature, is hard to define with words as words have components and a common structure and Chaos Magick itself has none. But here is one definition (made by me combining words and phrases by others). “In short, chaos magic is about using whatever ideas and practices are helpful to you at the moment, even if they contradict ideas and practices used previously. A postmodern magical tradition which emphasizes the pragmatic use of belief systems and the creation of new and unorthodox methods.” So to be clear I have adopted this form of spirituality as one that suits me well as I believe what Pierre Teilhard de Chardin has said quoted above. Even giving my belief system a title seems a bit out of sinc for me, but people like to know what one's spirituality is and as I said it seems to fit me closely.

I abhor dogma. So being involved in a formal group of spiritual practitioners has never appealed to me, although there has been occasion in my life to do so for short periods of time. One of those times was when I was young and I got swept up in what was called the Jesus People's Army, or Jesus Freaks as we were affectionately, or not, called. The term Jesus Freak a pejorative term from non-Christian hippies that backfired as the movement adopted it themselves. It was a movement that started on the west coast of the USA and spread across the county and into Europe and Central America like a wildfire. I burned all my drugs and occult books and grabbed my Bible and became a street preacher. And instead of being a common “field hippie” in the local parks I started irritating my fellows with words like “Repent!”

It was during this time I studied the Bible every day and went to the local Bible Collage and sat and read for hours, pulling books off the shelve devouring all the information I could. I was seeking that place of “oneness” with the infinate with “God” and the bliss of the Buddha. It was two little things that finally made me go, “What? Huh? Well now!” First was when I learned that it was not until the Second Council of Constantinople in 553 Christians decide it's doctrine would not have a belief in reincarnation and debated for hundreds of years started by a dude named Origen of Alexandria , a noted theologian of the early church. Now I had been studying religions since I was about 15 and reincarnation was a doctrine I had adopted as a personal belief. And to find that it was one around in the time of Jesus and was being debateded shocked me to say the least.

The second finding that twisted my head to the side was when I started hearing and reading about the Knights Templar. While in the Bible College I asked the librarian to steer me toward information on them for my studies. She took me to a very small set of books on the subject and I started reading. I quickly began to see that they were considered “evil” and practitioners of witchcraft. I, being a rebel at heart, felt the strong need to know more about the “Warrior Monks”. Dissatisfied with what I found there I was compelled to go to the public library to see if I could find more information that was not soaked in the flavor of the Christian church. There I discovered that the Church had basically tried to wipe the memory of them from the minds of the “common man” and the records were buried deep in the vaults of the church. The reason was the Templars were powerful and even more so than the king or the church itself. I found that under extreme pressure from King Philip IV, Pope Clement V issued an edict officially dissolving the Order. This after all sort of tactics used against them from arrest to imprisonment to torture. And so I thought, “Well this sucks!” I suppose my personal feelings of justice were assaulted by this new knowledge and knowing I could do nothing about the past, I decided to steer my future away from the dogma of the Christian bible as it now was becoming clear to me that it was built on lies myths and misinformation. Now don't get me wrong, I did and still do love words attributed to Jesus, but the dogma of being a Christian was no longer for me. So off I went, once again in my search for truth. I knew it was a monumental task as in the words of AndrĂ© Gide express. “Trust those who seek the truth but doubt those who say they have found it.” And back to Socrates "I know one thing: that I know nothing".

So, God. Being an Omnist, coined by English poet Philip J. Bailey in 1839, (one who holds the recognition and respect of all religions) I have seen that the very word is such a huge subject. An fundamental question. Is there a “god”? And next, do I have a “soul”? God and Soul. And basic consciousness. “I Think Therefor I Am” as Descartes said was the only rational starting point when we are all surrounded with a sense of doubt in what is “real” or the “truth”. Socrates and Descartes simple words guide me often. Many folks are sustained by what is termed “faith”. Although I do have much faith in things unseen and in much of what some call pseudoscience, I am drawn to know the why and how of things too. Some have said that science can be a religion in its self. They call it Scientism, a world view that worships Empiricism. I see faith and reason as a young couple walking down a country lane, hand in hand in love. But as they come to the fork in the road they begin to argue whether to go to the right or to the left. The tyranny of duality! Shadows and Light! Can make one's soul ache, (that is if we have one).

For a moment perhaps a little exploration of some of the names of god. The word Theoria seems to fit here. It is Greek for contemplation. Corresponding to the Latin word contemplatio meaning "looking at", "gazing at", "being aware of."

Theologians tell us that basically the word “God” is a Christian and monotheistic term for “the” supreme being. For Christians it means "belief in one personal and transcendent God". But also there is panentheistic monotheists which believe that “the divine” is in every part of the universe and also extends beyond time and space. Now don't confuse panentheists with pantheism, which holds that the divine and the universe are identical, but maintains a distinction between the divine and non-divine and the significance of both. Well to further confuse the issue of the monotheistic God Muslims, also an Abrahamic religion, call God “Allah”. The reason they say is using "Allah" instead of god while speaking English is that “the word god can be plural i.e. god/gods but "Allah" is always singular which relates to the most important Islamic fundamental of "Allah" being the one and the only god.” And the Jewish faith uses Jehovah and Yahweh and Rabbinic Judaism describes seven names for "God" which must be erased if ever written down. Well now. I personally believe they worship the same concept of God but many, these days especially, like to argue that Allah is not God. But I am not going to get into that debate. Let's move on a bit. Maybe just some bullet entries.

Ein Sof is a Kabbalahistic term for God prior to his self-manifestation in the production of any spiritual realm.

Demiurge is an artisan like figure responsible for the fashioning and maintenance of the physical universe. The term was adopted by the Gnostics.

Monad is a word used for “god” in trying to understand form, “atomism”, and substance as being all made of the same thing, God.

This has been just a toe in the lake of the names of god focused with an Abrahamic lens. When entering into mythology, paganism or the occult concepts and terms take on a much larger ocean of beliefs. Or the theosophical and new age ideas surrounding “I Am”. Or question of what is meant by Genesis that says, “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness”. Who was he talking to?? And in some Christian dogma God is three and one at the same time.. Well, now. Seems my work is cut out for me.

To be continued....

I cannot believe you have essentially ignored one of the most unjust events happening in America since the Civil Rights Movement of the 60's.

All I wish to say is be brave and maybe be the first to get your reporters down there as legal observers and start really covering the atrocities happening to the Indian Nations.

Thank you (I hope)

Freedom Thought And Political Discourse

Until Further Notice Kether Muse Will Have This Link At The Top Of All Posts
In Regard To Contacts And Information To Help At Standing Rock.
Information Added To That Page Regularly

Here is a little something that goes for both the right and the left in this political season and its tensions. I first began with reading an article on Daily Kos about how "Joan Baez diffuses right wing protest at Idaho concert". Being from Idaho I knew of this event which happened in 2009. But if someone did not look at the date in small text at left of the top and just read the headline, they would think it happened yesterday.

It is so obvious that many are entrenched in their opinions and beliefs to the point that even rationally discussing any issue is near impossible. Changing your mind is a hard thing to do and even harder to admit you have reconsidered and “flip-flopped”. For presidents and political candidates it is often a death knell. On the left it is about much protesting at this moment and from the right they do not seem to understand the need for protesting or its history and power to enact change in societies, even not realizing their vote for Donald Trump in itself was a historic move of political protest. And there are those from both sides who want to “give peace a chance” in all of it. It is truly a Brave New World and forming our opinions don't just come from mom and dad any more.

Personal examples of my mind changing. First example. After 911, I was a member of numerous political chat boards. As a board member and founding member of the Idaho Peace Coalition it was an early morning daily ritual to see what other thought about war. In one heated exchange in conversation about war and Bush I was convinced by another poster that perhaps the best person to be President of the United States would be a high ranking General. A person who knows the horrors of war up front and personal. Perhaps he would be less likely to engage the country in warfare across the world. After thinking about this for quite a while I decided his argument was sound. As a result I had decided if Colin Powell was once again a potential candidate in the next U.S. presidential election and I was going to vote for him. He never got to the primaries.

Second example. In the current debates I have been a proponent of eliminating the electoral collage. As a result I have been reading lots about it's history and pros and cons from many sources. I have been looking for issues in which to engage in a meaningful way. Although I am a full supporter of non-violent civil disobedience and so wish I could be there and at Standing Rock, my physical limitations make it too difficult these days to participate in most events. But in the investigation of the issue of the electoral college I have discovered that I may not be so attached to my belief as I thought I was for so many years. The jury is still out at this point for me.

Anyway, the point is, if we are to move forward we must keep an open mind. Having an open mind is not easy. Some of the reasons it is hard are these. Fear of letting go of control, experiencing changes, making yourself vulnerable and the fear of making mistakes. But some of the benefits are strengthening yourself, gaining confidence and learning to be honest with yourself and others.

It is important to study history and realize that freedom of thought isn't free. From the time of the Pharaohs, to the Greeks to the founding of America to the Age of Enlightenment in Europe. The fight for freedom of thought is still to this day a fundamental struggle. The oppression of ideas is at the heart of much political discourse. Achieving unity of thought or consensus in our dualistic world seems a Herculean task.

And the issue of where people get their beliefs is a huge one. One of my heroes is activist Aaron Swartz (now deceased) who was, as I am, frustrated that most people did not have ready access to credible and scientific and scholarly information. My page on this is here. These days I have been pointing out on social media the fact that the majority of news shared is so biased from the right and the left it is maddening. Finding what one could consider “the truth” is almost an exercise in futility. The words of Andre Gide, "Believe those who are seeking the truth. Doubt those who find it." echo in my mind constantly. And Godwin's Law is rampant. I truly attempt it as best I can but so many hardly put forth any effort at all as they spread memes across the internet and post fake stories to “prove” what they believe is true, practicing what Saul Bellow said, "When we ask for advice, we are usually looking for an accomplice." And the Russell's Teapot option is a circular hamster wheel that gets everyone nowhere. My search for reliable news sources has developed into a new page Media Matters at Kether Muse.

This post was precipitated by the discourses I see on Facebook and my fascination of it all. In my morning reading and adding to my website I came upon this book and the following paragraph was taken near the beginning of the book “A History of Freedom of Thought” (Full Text Here) written in 1913 by J.B. Bury who was was an Irish historian, classical scholar, Medieval Roman historian and philologist.

I wish all to think about personal change, open-mindedness and what you wish to do and how you wish to act in the coming months and years. And in closing, as always, my default position is to “seek peace” in the world and inside myself. And I realize so well that at times accomplishing both at the same moment is extremely difficult.

“The average brain is naturally lazy and tends to take the line of least resistance. The mental world of the ordinary man consists of beliefs which he has accepted without questioning and to which he is firmly attached; he is instinctively hostile to anything which would upset the established order of this familiar world. A new idea, inconsistent with some of the beliefs which he holds, means the necessity of rearranging his mind; and this process is laborious, requiring a painful expenditure of brain-energy. To him and his fellows, who form the vast majority, new ideas, and opinions which cast doubt on established beliefs and institutions, seem evil because they are disagreeable.”

Short Reply To A Friend Post 2016 Election

Post image courtesy of Fractal Enlightenment

A friend tagged me on a Facebook post after the election wherein she shares her optimistic and spiritual focused pathway for the future as she sees it. In the first sentence she uses the words “strangely activated” and continues on to express a positive focused agenda of what she dedicates herself to do.

I identify with her words “strangely activated”. I have felt this for a while now as can seen from some of my previous posts on my page such as recently making a signed peace pledge meme rededicating myself to peace work. Although fundamentally non-violent I am not a pacifist and I have realized this for a long time. I am more of a revolutionary. The last few years I have been fairly idle and somewhat reclusive but for a while now I have been feeling uneasy about being this way, increasingly intensified with the recent presidential elections and the unacceptable events occurring at the Standing Rock reservation in North Dakota. I have had many a talk with my dearest confidants about how to shake off the cobwebs and the dust and get more involved in working for societal change.

As of late my outlet has been reading history and adding information to my website on revolution, feminism, voting rights, the Constitution and beyond. In reading these things I see that the election of Donald J. Trump as the new President of the United States has shades of history wrapped all around it. Past is prologue. I have seen how Americans for the most part have short memories when it comes to history. I have felt a bit fearful for the millennials as their entire adult lives they have only known war. The baby boomers are on a steady decline in our society. And those who came at the end of that generation (like myself) who watched the chaos of the Vietnam War the race riots of the 60s and the onslaught of the rise of American foreign policy of regime change view the election of Donald Trump though different eyes.

His populist message of draining the swamp of the corruption in congress and beyond itself is nothing new. The rhetoric of “America First” too is not new but resonates with many with fear as their core emotion rather than hope. As a result of this fear is the marriage the "otherness" as a way to come to grips with this feeling of disenfranchisement and it's causes. And our new president has used this very well in this election acting as the minister conducting the ceremony of this union and as was said by Saul Bellow. "When we ask for advice, we are usually looking for an accomplice." And Trump has served well as this accomplice.

This is written as a brief response to my friend who asks, “What do you choose to stand for today?!?” Well my dear A.M. I see the “embracing of otherness” as a fundamental element in all that is wrong with the world. It fuels war. It hinders environmental progress. In frustration many say like Alvin Lee expressed in 1971, “I'd love the change the world but I don't know what to do. So I'm leaving it up to you.” (and unfortunately millennials after the loss of Bernie Sanders have seemed to adopt this attitude) Using the phrases of the past struggles and revolutions for justice to me are never passĂ©. I will continue to use those phrases. I will say the Metta as a daily ritual. As I read your post I recall the the words of John F. Kennedy. “If not us, who? If not now, when?” We must hold our new president accountable to the proposition that "all men are created equal" to counter this otherness.

More to come. Please visit Kether Muse Main Website.

What's the current situation in the #NoDAPL struggle?

- Obama did NOT re-route the pipeline and there is absolutely NO material evidence that the administration is considering it.
- The Army Corps did NOT order Morton County to stop attacking and arresting us on (what they claim is) their land.
- There has been NO order to stop all construction. EVER.
- There is currently NO 30 day delay, there is no 45 day delay, there is no 60 day delay.
- DAPL IS still working and as we speak is desecrating a concentration of sites held sacred by multiple Nations, and is almost done with everything except the river crossing
- DAPL does NOT have the 404 permit they need to bore under the Missouri river.
- It is NOT clear whether DAPL cares about having the permit they need to bore under the river.
- The Feds are NOT preparing to raid the camp.
- Work is NOT complete in Iowa and there IS currently a lockdown action happening right now.
- NO ONE donated $2.5 million to the legal defense fund.
- Rumors ARE a tactic of state repression
- Things that Army Corps colonels say to people in passing have NO legal or regulatory teeth
- Empty promises of further review ARE a tactic of state repression
- This whole seige is taking place on land that was NEVER ceded to the US government
- We aren't leaving until we win!

Call The President And Justice Department About #StandingRock

This is going to be a very brief post which will be better done in the near future. Making it to easily post information on Facebook and Twitter to get people to call the White House and the Justice Department because of the increasing urgency at #StandingRock.

The illegal actions in North Dakota and the rise of the Militarized Police (ACLU LINK) is getting so out of hand. It is beginning to look like a crackdown in in a totalitarian regime perpetrated by a strong armed dictator, not a free society.

If you care about what is happening to our Native American First Nation community right now especially, please call the White House and Justice Department. We can't all be there on the front line but technology is the vanguard of the second line of defense. Share this post freely please. Mni Wiconi

#StandingRock and the Legal Observer

A friend emailed me this article today (thanks Stephanie) From here I found myself reading the blog post of Alder Rebecca Kemble District 18 of Madison Wisconsin. It is a personal account of being arrested with water protectors at #StandingRock while delivering
Madison's resolution "Expressing Solidarity with Indigenous Resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline" to the Standing Rock Tribal Chairman, David Archambault II. This resolution was passed unanimousy by the Common Council and signed by the Mayor on September 20, 2016."

Another article I came across was a recent article written October 12, 2016 by the Civil Liberties Defense Center who are considered the leading resource for preparing legal observers.

Given the rise in technology and the increased question of who is Watching theWatchers many issues have not been legally defined yet leading to much confusion as to who is right and wrong and where our powers and responsibilities as citizens lie. It might seem cliche but the observations of Orwell on Big Brother have even more than in the past been taken from the arena of science fiction into the arena of science fact. Many have found that to them this sort of idea was just so much conspiracy theory. But with the arrival of Edward Snowden into our national consciousness many more now are having an awakening to the surveillance society we live in as regards to our governments and our fellow citizens. This too is spurring a new look at the legal boundaries associated with whistleblowers and others. But that is another issue for another blog post.

I would hope to believe that in this day and age few are not aware of the gathering of the tribes and supporters at Standing Rock in protest of the North Dakota Access Pipeline and the increasing arrests there. And among them is the arrests of journalists observers and legal observers. The issue of protecting the water should be a cause we all would support but surprisingly it is not by many. They have their reasons I suppose but I will not go into that today.

Other issues are the issues of the unenforced mandates of the treaties we have signed with the Indians of our country and the destruction of Sacred Sites and the Recognition of Native American sacred sites in the United States and their protection of them as outlined in the United Nation's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples for them as well as others.. The issue of desecration of sacred sites should alarm us all, whether it is from a spiritual standpoint or a secular one. The racism against the Indians are just as profound if not even more so than the racism toward the black citizens of our country. And understanding how the history of the police and racism are so relevant. Hopefully this awareness is being expanded greatly.

This post may go on and become larger with edits to come. But for now here are a few links of interest to these issues. I wrote an email to the National Lawyers Guild as I found a link on many pages to their "Legal Observer Training Manual" but all links are broken. Hopefully they can fix it and when/if they do I will update the link to it here.

#StandingRock and Black Panthers

This will be a short post today:

I watched a video today by Lyla June (Facebook Page Here) from October 15th 2016.The video is about the Indians at #StandingRock attempting to go to the pipeline site and pray and how they were stopped by roadblocks and arrested. She was expressing their growing frustration there and made an appeal for everyone to write and or call the President and the Department of Justice. I would add to that list the ACLU as the violations of the Constitution and our Native treaties are so obvious. This can also be seen in the prosecution of journalists there.

As far as this I had a couple of thoughts. In regard to the roadblocks perhaps they could start going on horses and get around them. Just a thought.

My second thought has to do with The Black Panthers
From Wikipedia
"The initial tactic of the party utilized contemporary open-carry gun laws to protect Party members when policing the police. This act was done in order to record incidents of police brutality by distantly following police cars around neighborhoods. When confronted by a police officer, Party members cited laws proving they have done nothing wrong and threatened to take to court any officer that violated their constitutional rights."

North Dakota is a semi open carry state. So I envisioned #StandingRock water protectors grabbing their legal open carry gun permits and guns, their bows and arrows (tomahawks??) and stand in peaceful vigil and intimidate these hired thugs just as the Panthers did in their more peaceful times.. Just seeing the Panthers exercising their Constitutional rights made people stand up and pay attention as well as scared the hell out of police. A sort of version of the Guerrilla warfare technique as this is much akin to an asymmetric war.

The Days of Rage and the Millennials

I grew up in the late 60's and early 70's and it was during this time I became an activist. Mine was pushed greatly by receiving my draft card after registering for conscription with the Selective Service System. But by this time the draft was coming to an end and few were being punished for burning their draft card. (LOOK HERE) But the fight against the war was raging... It took me years to distinguish between being anti-war and pro-peace. At times I still struggle with that. Although the principle of Ahimsa is my default position I sometimes feel like Bruce Cockburn, especially in this day and age of war in Syria, the war on terror and the brutality of  ISIS and US drone warfare. The song Lives in the Balance by Jackson Browne echoes in my mind often. And Tracy Chapman's The Rape of the World always makes me cry.

I look at this election and shake my head in despair. I feel that the best way out would be a revolution. Being non-violent I wish to focus on the revolution via a political one at the ballot box. The best avenue for this has been hopefulness of the Millennials. While Bernie Sanders was running their political enthusiasm was tremendous, as was the same for other generations. But now that Bernie has left the race, I fear their bubble has burst and they are going to fade into the background.. But this post is about another part of history today that may or may not dovetail with the current atmosphere of our nation.

I muse that although Millennials can be a powerful force they seem to be mostly a quiet bunch. And I think about revolution and politics. I think about the protests of my own personal past. I am not for violent revolutionary tactics, but I don't see the passion of those days in the young people of the day, although they have many issues to be enraged about. The closest may be Occupy Wall Street and the Black Lives Matter Movement. But as I said this is a “This Day In History” Post. Beyond the initial statement as to the day's anniversary I will just post some links that you too may muse on if you wish. Many of them will be added later to my Website.

47 years ago today in 1969 – The opening rally of the Days of Rage occurred.
The October 8–11 event known as a "National Action" built around John Jacobs' slogan, "Bring the War Home".

Some things I collected about Millennials:

In January of 2016 The Atlantic wrote "And if there’s one thing people are learning about this young generation, it’s that they are liberal. Even leftist. Flirting with socialist."
50% of Millennials are self-described Independents
Approximately 40% of Millennials are non-white or Hispanic
Nearly seven in ten Millennials think that newcomers strengthen American society
They are more likely to support same-sex marriage and the legalization of drugs.
Voting among people under 30 in non-presidential elections is hovering around its lowest rate in the last half-century.
Millennials are the most highly educated and culturally diverse group of all generations, and have been regarded as hard to please when it comes to employers.
American sociologist Kathleen Shaputis labeled Millennials the Peter Pan Generation.

“Young people treat electoral politics the way they treat Hollywood movies: They only show up for the blockbusters. But the math of democracy is unyielding. If you want a revolution, you have to vote for it. Not just every four years. Not just for cool candidates. Not just for political outsiders unsullied by the soot of experience. If young people want a liberal revolution, they have to vote again and again and again, in local elections, midterm elections, and presidential contests. To change the country, America’s young revolutionaries have to do something truly revolutionary: They have to convince their friends to vote like old people.”

In the United States, Bernie Sanders, a self-proclaimed democratic socialist and democratic candidate in the 2016 United States presidential election, was the most popular candidate among Millennial voters, having garnered more votes from people under 30 than each of the major party's candidates, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, did combined. In April 2016, The Washington Post viewed Sanders as changing the way Millennials viewed politics saying, "He's not moving a party to the left. He's moving a generation to the left."

Millennials have brought a resurgence of political correctness. In 2015, a Pew Research study found 40% of Millennials in the United States support government restriction of speech offensive to minority groups.

The estimated number of U.S. Millennials in 2015 is 83.1 million people. In 2016, the Pew Research Center found that Millennials surpassed Baby Boomers to become the largest living generation in the United States.

According to Christine Kelly, Occupy is not a youth movement and has participants that vary from the very young to very old.

Thought this was a good video illustrating the power in the hands of the Millennials

Days of Rage Posters:
1 ~ 2 ~ 3 ~ 4

The "Join the Conspiracy" posters are a reference to the The Chicago Seven originally Chicago Eight. Bobby Seale, the eighth man charged, had his trial severed during the proceedings, lowering the number of defendants from eight to seven. He and fellow activist Huey P. Newton co-founded the Black Panther Party.

Weatherman members Mark Rudd and Terry Robbins said that priority must be given to building an anti-imperialist youth movement.

"The Elections Don't Mean Shit—Vote Where the Power Is—Our Power Is In The Street"
Weatherman Manifesto Full Text also known as You Don't Need A Weatherman To Know Which Way The Wind Blows (1969)
From the text very relevant to today:
"What is specifically meant by the term caste is that all black people,
on the basis of their common slave history, common culture and skin
color are systematically denied access to particular job categories (or
positions within job categories), social position, etc., regardless of
individual skills, talents, money or education. Within the working
class, they are the most oppressed section; in the petit bourgeoisie,
they are even more strictly confined to the lowest levels."

Jacobs was the primary author of what came to be called the "Weatherman Manifesto."

“Weatherman would shove the war down their dumb, fascist throats and show them, while we were at it, how much better we were than them, both tactically and strategically, as a people. In an all-out civil war over Vietnam and other fascist U.S. imperialism, we were going to bring the war home. Turn the imperialists war into a civil war, in Lenin’s words. And we were going to kick ass.” - John Jacobs

According to Bill Ayers:“The Days of Rage was an attempt to break from the norms of kind of acceptable theater of ‘here are the anti-war people: containable, marginal, predictable, and here’s the little path they’re going to march down, and here’s where they can make their little statement.’ We wanted to say, “No, what we’re going to do is whatever we had to do to stop the violence in Vietnam.’”

The Black Panthers withdrew their support of SDS when it refused to sanction community control of the police in white neighborhoods.

The Catonsville Nine were tried in federal court October 5–9, 1968
Fr. Daniel Berrigan wrote, of the Catonsville incident: "Our apologies, good friends, for the fracture of good order, the burning of paper instead of children..."

Che Guevara believed that the Third World's underdevelopment and dependence was an intrinsic result of imperialism, neocolonialism, and monopoly capitalism, with the only remedy being proletarian internationalism and world revolution.

Just Because

It may seem futile but I encourage all to vote.

15 Years Ago Today And The Endless War

This will be just a short post today. Just a reminder of what today is
and what it has meant to our lives. Rethink war.

Fifteen years ago on October 7th 2001 the United States of America launched Operation Enduring Freedom invading Afghanistan after the Taliban declined to extradite Osama bin Laden and expel al-Qaeda unless given convincing evidence of his involvement in the 911 Attacks.
It is now the longest war in our county's history and the beginning of the Endless War On Terror.

As of 2015, tens of thousands of people had been killed in the war. Over 4,000 ISAF soldiers (NATO-led security forces) and civilian contractors as well as over 15,000 Afghan national security forces members have been killed, as well as nearly 20 thousand civilians. (these numbers are said to be much more by some especially the civilian deaths)

As of September 23, 2016, there have been 2,216 U.S. US military deaths in the War in Afghanistan.

All fighters in this war have been accused and/or convicted of war crimes and human rights abuses. The Taliban, the Northern Alliance, Coalition Forces and US soldiers.

The Patriot Act was signed into law by President George W. Bush on October 26, 2001. Senator Russ Feingold was the only Senator to vote against the bill.

On September 14, 2001 the Authorization for Use of Military Force was passed with Barbara Lee, D-CA being the only member of either house of Congress to vote against the bill.

It is very clear that with Clinton or Trump the increase in war and militarism will be greatly increased. This year's vote is very important for the future of us and our children. The evidence is that most likely war will continue. Although the Libertarians and the Greens are the most anti-war it is unlikely they will garner the votes and even if they did, getting their agenda passed in any bill in Congress would be hard to imagine and it would just die in place. Please join your local peace groups and anti-war organizations and do what you can to end the madness.

Many in this election have been looking for change.
Many believe that a revolution is on the horizon.
Many hope voting correctly will curb this downward spiral.
And many think it will take a violent insurrection and are planning on it.
"Let there be Peace on Earth and let it begin with me."

Idaho Indigenous People's Day

(blog image captured from NPR in Buffalo)

Monday October 10th is Columbus Day. In 2015 it was reported that 14 cities had replaced it with Indigenous People's Day. And more have been joining in this last year. Two of the most resent as of this date are the cities of Denver, Colorado October 2016 and of Spokane, Washington August of 2016. Related is the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People celebrated on August 9th.

Here is a very good article about this published on Tuesday, October 4th by Common Dreams. He touches on what is taught in school and many children basically think Indians are Dead. Howard Zinn also addresses real history in his People's History of the United States in chapter 7: As Long As Grass Grows and Water Runs.

The current activities at the North Dakota access pipeline protests (unfortunately under reported) has put a bit of a spotlight on issues central to the Native Americans and their presence in our country. Issues of Sacred Land and Sites, broken treaties and the presence of a third world country within our borders are being discussed. But more than discussions we need more spotlights put on Indians and their issues. Hopefully cities changing the celebration of Columbus to a truer celebration by enacting Indigenous People Day will be a great start.

Here in Idaho where I live, I have not, as of yet, found a push to have this done here. But being a republican/conservative driven state it is a tough row to hoe. The closest holiday we have is perhaps Idaho Human Rights Day. We do have a group that has been working for 8 years plus to get our legislature to add the LGBT community to the list of those protected in our Human Right Act by adding four words. Add The Words Idaho is the organization spearheading this change. I have searched some but have not found any concerted effort by any group to get any city in Idaho, let alone the state, to adopt the day, not even in the small liberal stronghold of the capital city of Boise.

As a board member of the Idaho Peace Coalition I am going the write to the other board members and see if this is an issue we may like to take on.

Perhaps a gathering at the Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial would be a good start with the help of friends at the ACLU Idaho and United Action for Idaho. Perhaps the Agency for New Americans would wish to be evolved as celebrating the cultures of refugees is also of importance.

And of course contact will be made to the The Shoshone-Bannock tribes, the Nez Perce, Coeur d'Alene tribe, Shoshone-Paiute, the Kootenai Tribe as well as others Idaho Indian advocates.

In closing. If you have read the previous post here you may have gleaned that I have been disappointed at myself and my reactions to the current politics. Tip O'Neil said, “All politics is local.” And I agree. So given this I have decided to be more engaged in areas that touch me on a more personal basis. (small note, I am 1/8 Native American) My participation with The Idaho Peace Coalition has been spotty at most in recent times even though the work is dear to my heart. I apologize to my fellow board members. As mentioned in the previous post I am working on my personal anger issues but I know if I work for others in a more peaceful way I can help them and thus also help myself. If you would like to help with this proposed project or have ideas to share please contact me.. Please share this post with others who may be interested.

Edit Addition: On Monday, October 10 at 10 AM - 2 PM Boise State University will be holding an Indigenous People's Day Event LINK HERE FACEBOOK EVENT LISING
